ORF secures Austrian Olympic rights
State broadcaster ORF have secured the media rights to the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
In a deal managed by agency Sportfive, ORF will be entitled to air HD-quality TV, internet and radio coverage of both events. ATV will broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies from Sochi exclusively live, which will mark the first time a commercial broadcaster has broadcast live Olympic coverage in Austria.
Alexander Wrabetz, the general director of ORF, said: "It is both in the interest of the public and the organisers to ensure that the most important sporting events in the world are made accessible to the widest possible audience. Over the few past years, ORF has acquired an excellent reputation as one of the international leading channels, especially with regards to winter sports."
ATV managing director Ludwig Bauer added: "I am very honoured that Sportfive has entrusted ATV to air such an important part of the action at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games."
Sportfive are marketing the rights to the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games in over 40 countries, and have recently completed deals with MTG in Sweden and with TV2 in Norway.
